Elizabeth Ann Carmine, 69, passed away on Tuesday October 5, 2010 at home in Orlando, Florida. Funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 4851 S. Apopka-Vineland Road, Orlando, FL 32819, with a prior visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The interment will follow immediately at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha. She was born on July 28, 1941 to John Walter and Ewald (North) Otey and attended public schools in Port Arthur, Texas. She graduated from Lamar University and began a teaching career in Pasadena, Texas. There she met Henry Carmine, Jr., and became his bride 8 months later. They traveled North America with Henry’s US Air Force career, with postings in Alabama; Texas; Winnipeg, Canada; Ohio and Missouri. Ann was a Red Cross volunteer, a leader for her daughters’ Brownie and Junior Girl Scout troops, and an ordained deacon and elder in the United Presbyterian Church. She obtained her Masters degree in media education from Wright State U. and resumed her education career as a school librarian/media specialist. Ann always said she had the best job possible: instilling a love of reading, sharing stories with great vocal expression to the younger kids and teaching the older ones research skills. She was selected four times as school “Teacher of the Year”. After retirement she continued to share stories at her grandsons’ schools. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother John Sydney Otey. She is survived by Henry, her husband of 45 years; daughter Allison McDonald, her husband Kelly, and two grandsons Brennan and Casey; daughter Heather and her friend Sean Thomas; sister-in-law Dorothy Love and her husband Bill; sister-in-law Jerry Otey Correu; several nieces, nephews, cousins and colleagues. Ann was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church , and a founding volunteer for Shepherd’s Hope. She belonged to several education groups: Orange County Retired Educators, FREA, NEA, FEA, CTA-Retired. In lieu of flowers, Ann urges you to make a donation to Shepherd’s Hope or your favorite charity. She also encourages you to spend at least an hour a week volunteering at a school or other group that needs your help.
