She was the 8th of 9 children born to Annie (Fitzgerald) and Lester Jones. They were sharecroppers in rural North Carolina and lived a life we wouldn't recognize today; with none of the conveniences we rely on. They lived in a tiny cabin on Dr. Wharton's land. Her father was a sharecropper and made a living farming tobacco by hand. They were poor, but her memories only reflected the love and faith they shared.
Dot married Garland P. Morgan after WWII. They knew each other for a few weeks and eloped with the help of Garland’s mother Blanche. Annie sent her brothers to kidnap her and bring her home because “no man was good enough for her daughter”. Their love lasted for 40 years, until Garland’s death in 1986.
The Morgan's were an Air Force family and they travelled the world. She played guitar and entertained servicemen, visited hospitals, and spread love where she could to those who needed some. And no family gathering or holiday was complete until Dot pulled out the Gibson and played everyone’s favorites.
After Garland’s death, Dot lived in Orlando in the house they bought for their retirement years. She enjoyed visiting “the parks”, Florida sunshine, and her church family. She moved to Las Vegas in October of 2015 and remained there until her death.
Dot is survived by her son Jeffrey, daughter-in-law Pete, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be held on 4 November, 2:00 pm at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, in Gotha FL. Family will receive friends from 1:00pm till time of service.
