He was born in Laurens, South Carolina on January 8, 1941 to Joe and Bessie Fowler.
He was married to his wife Betty and they have three wonderful sons.
He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. After military service he attended
college at Bemidji State University in Minnesota where he met his sweetheart Betty, who
became his wife of 57 years.
They received job offers and headed to Florida where he began coaching high school sports.
During these years he felt the call to the ministry and was ordained to preach the Gospel.
He pastored his first full time church at First Baptist Church of Nokomis, FL. He pastored
various churches until 2000 when he became Senior Pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church of
Orlando and served there for 22 years until his retirement. Those who attended his services
always left blessed by his knowledge of the scriptures and his compassion for souls and the
needs of his flock.
He has his Private Pilot’s license and enjoyed flying family and friends. He also enjoyed riding
his motor cycle and playing golf with his sons.
He is survived by his wife Betty, son David, wife Ana and grandchildren Lucas and Lola; son
Donald and wife Charlotte and grandson Dylan and son Doug, wife Kate and grandchildren
Hannah and Douglas II.
He will be greatly missed by his immediate family as well as his numerous church families.
His home-going service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734, on Saturday, October 14th with the Viewing at 1:00 and the Service at 2:00.
