Barbara Jane Smith, age 90, of Orlando, FL passed away on November 13, 2022. She was born the oldest of three children to O. J. and Lorena Moore on November 6, 1932 in Chavies, Kentucky. Barbara lived in Tennessee and Ohio, eventually relocation to Orlando, FL. She was an independent type of person who was always seeking ways to improve the status quo. Barbara was known as an avid letter writer in the work place, especially when the topic required mediation and diplomacy. She was a determined person, especially for attaining education for herself, her family, and for the students in her charge.
Shortly after high school Barbara met and married Edward Smith on August 29, 1950. After their move to Ohio, she took a job with Ohio Bell Telephone. In a few months Barbara was promoted Supervisor in the Traffic Department. She mediated customer complaints and conducted in-service trainings.
Upon moving to Orlando, Barbara transferred to Southern Bell Telephone Company. During that time she began studies in college, earning a B. A. Degree from FTU in 1972, with a major in Business Education and earned a Masters Degree from the University of Central Florida in 1977.
Barbara had worked in Education for Orange County Public Schools and for the Florida Department of Education. She had a passion for her family and for traveling.
Barbara is survived by her Daughter Kimberly Joy Apuzzo (son-in-law Frank Apruzzo, Grandchildren Lindsey Mitchell and Alex Apuzzo, and Great Grandchildren Emmett Mitchelll and Peyton Mitchell.
Services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery on November 20 2022 at 11:00 AM.
