William Russell Quick of Goodyear, Arizona, passed away on August 25, 2024, at the age of 68, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born on October 14, 1956, in England to Leon and Gwynn Quick, William was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather whose life was marked by service, love, and laughter.
William's early years were spent in England, where his father, a member of the Air Force, was stationed. He later moved to the United States, where he graduated from Eastern Wayne High School in North Carolina in 1974. After graduating, he joined the Navy in 1975. During his service, he was stationed on the USS Ray, a submarine, and made significant contributions as a Reactor Operator qualified Engineering Watch Supervisor and Electronics Technician 2nd Class. He travelled with the Navy to many different places including Japan, the Ukraine, and the Arctic Circle. His distinguished naval career was recognized with the Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with One Bronze Star.
Following his naval service, William embarked on a successful career in the nuclear industry, including a notable 20-year tenure at VC Summer. His professional life was a testament to his dedication and expertise, mirroring the commitment he showed to his family.
William married his beloved wife, Lori Ann Quick, on May 18, 1985. Together, they raised two children, Jesi Rae Bond and Jordan Timothy Quick, and were blessed with five grandchildren: Kyree Quick, Kaiden Bond, Careem Bond, Camron Bond, and Dellijah Shackleford. William was an extraordinary father and husband, always ensuring his family wanted for nothing and filling their lives with joy and laughter.
He was a vibrant and special person who had a knack for making others smile. Known for his humor, thoughtfulness, and generosity, William's presence was a source of warmth and happiness. His passions included his favorite color, Tar Heel Blue, which he proudly painted his house, and his love for sports teams such as the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Gamecocks. He also enjoyed country music, football season, and was an avid fan of J.R.R. Tolkien’s works, particularly "The Lord of the Rings" books and movies.
In addition to his love for music and literature, William was a talented cook who delighted in barbecuing. His signature dishes included chicken wings, burgers, steaks, and turkey gravy. He took great pride in his home, constructing a large deck and enjoying the satisfaction of home improvement projects.
His family and the memories they created together were his greatest achievements and his most cherished treasures.
William is survived by his devoted wife Lori Ann Quick; his children Jesi Rae Bond and Jordan Timothy Quick; his sisters Debbie Whetsell and Larke Herring; and his beloved grandchildren Kyree Quick, Kaiden Bond, Careem Bond, Camron Bond, and Dellijah Shackleford.
Though the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease took a toll on his brilliant mind, his legacy of love, joy, and dedication endures in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. William will be remembered fondly and deeply missed.
