Teresa Bobby Stewart, 96, of Phoenix passed away December 23, 2011 at Estrella Care and Rehabilitation in Avondale. She was born October 11, 1915 in Albuquerque, NM to John (Juan) and Adela (Miera) Stewart. She has lived in the valley for the past 50 years.
Teresa was a cook by trade and was very proud of her civil service time at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, AZ, where she installed electrical circuit boards in the P38 airplanes during World War II. She was heavily involved with Cesar Chavez with the early organization of the United Farm Workers Movement.
Teresa is survived by her daughter Jennie Flores and son Robert Stewart, sister Della Stewart and brother Mike Stewart. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Gavina Resendez, Sadie Miranda, and Helen Garcia and her brothers Pete Sandoval and Johnny Stewart. Teresa also leaves behind several grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandson.
A graveside service will take place Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 9am at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale, followed by a memorial service at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery 8500 W. Thomas Rd, Phoenix, AZ.
