Belen, 76, passed away peacefully in her home in Goodyear, Arizona, the morning of June 30, 2023.
Belen was born on May 18, 1947, to Rigoberto Figueroa and Maria Georgina Figueroa in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She was the younger child of the couple’s two children. Years later, her father remarried, and had four more children. She attended a Catholic boarding school, but would return home and spend a lot of time with her grandmother, aunt, and uncle. She completed some college courses at the University, but then relocated to New York. While in New York, she met and married Rogelio Stone. In 1971, they welcomed their twin daughters, Ruth, and Margaret.
Unfortunately, a couple of years after the birth of her children, Belen and Rogelio separated and later divorced. As a young mother and divorcee, Belen had to raise her daughters on her own. She was a pillar of strength and perseverance, and selflessly gave everything she had for her children. As a single mom, she had to work to support her family. For many years she worked as an administrative assistant in the banking industry. She later moved on and worked for a nonprofit organization that served individuals with disabilities. In 2008, Belen moved from Lindenhurst, New York, to Phoenix, Arizona where she retired.
She loved spending time with family and friends including her fur babies; Cinnamon, Pepito and Lunita. She volunteered at a food bank, enjoyed dancing, sewing, arts and crafts, and doing small home renovation projects.
Belen was predeceased by her grandparents, parents, and older brother Rigoberto. She is survived by her children; Ruth Stone (and her son-in-law, Scott McKown), and Margarita Stone (and her son-in-law, Charlie Boss), grandchildren by marriage, Kyler McKown (and his wife, Katherine Ma) and Chantelle Eagle, as well as her younger siblings; Raymundo, Regen, Mirtita, and Sonia.
She will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held at Thompson Funeral Chapel in Goodyear, Arizona, on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 10am.
