Robert proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years, later being called back from the reserves to serve in Operation Desert Storm. He married Virginia M. Long on August 3, 1996, creating a loving family centered around shared interests and laughter.
Throughout his life, Robert enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He enjoyed spending his time with his daughter by helping with her softball team. He was a passionate NASCAR fan, an enthusiastic bowler on a league, and loved riding motorcycles. He was proud to spread his faith through his Christian puppet shows with his daughter. His creative side shone through in his talent for baking wedding cakes. And his laughter-filled outings to comedy clubs were always a fun way to spend an evening. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.
Robert's work ethic began early, selling newspapers at the age of 15. He dedicated 15 years to Banner Hospital, where he took on various roles, and later worked at the Walmart Distribution Center.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia, and their sons, Ryan Brooks and Antonio Long his mother Irene M. McGill, sisters Penny Spach, and brothers Donald Brooks, and Larry McGill. He is also survived by three grandsons: Jaxson Long, Tyson Long, and Anthony Long, and his very best friend Mike Romero (aka Brother). He will be remembered for his sense of humor, unwavering support, and dedication to his family.
He was preceded in death by his dad James McGill, daughter Samantha Brooks, and brother Joseph McGill.
Robert's spirit and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to family and country.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM. Burial will take place at 2:00 PM at the National Memorial Center of Arizona (Phoenix).
