Al was a native of Akron, Ohio, where he was born to Albert Rizk Sawaya and Frances (Khoury) Sawaya. He graduated from Hoban High School and attended The University of Akron, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. In 2007, Al earned an MBA from The Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University. He was also a member of IEEE Communications Society for more than 35 years.
After graduating college, Al joined the U.S. Air Force as a civilian RF System Test Development Engineer. He joined AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1993 (eventually Lucent Technologies) and served as Test Engineer and then Technical Manager until 2000. With the spin-off of Celiant Corporation, later purchased by Andrew Corporation, Al became the Director of Test Engineering and Technical Operations and remained with this company for more than six years.
Al then joined Honeywell Aerospace in 2008 and transferred with his family to El Paso, Texas, serving in various leadership roles in the fields of advanced manufacturing, engineering, testing and calibration solutions. In 2015, Al and his family transferred to Phoenix, Arizona where he served as a Sr. Quality Engineer in the field of customer quality management and engineering for both commercial and military products.
Al adored his family and loved spending time with his wife, sons and dog Bailey Rose. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and co-workers.
Al is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Frances Sawaya, and is survived by his wife Lori Anne (Flesher) Sawaya of 30 years, and two sons, Jacob Albert Sawaya (26) and Nicholas Charles Sawaya (22). He is also survived by his brother and sisters, Corey (Sarah) Sawaya, Francine (Peter) Glennon, Judine (Tim) Boebel, Nadine (Vicki Silvey) Sawaya, aunts Catherine Delaney and Zelfa Sawaya, and in-laws Debra Flesher and Joe and Susan (Flesher) Reass, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
