Mrs. Martinez moved to Arizona in 1964 where she met and married her husband of 46 years, David. Mary worked for Maricopa County teaching senior citizens how to use their commodities. She was a Head Start Assistant at Avondale Elementary and Tolleson Elementary, then went on to be a bus driver for Littleton Elementary. When she wasn’t working she was volunteering. Mary was a troop leader for the Brownies and the Girl Scouts. She taught an ESL program locally. She was a volunteer for meals on wheels and at the VA Hospital, and she was a member of La Mission Jubilee Center. She returned to work as a director at the Avondale Senior Center, and retired from the Cashion Senior Center. Mary loved people and was an amazing cook who used her family as guinea pigs, and her family loved her for it.
Mrs. Martinez is survived by her husband, David Martinez Sr., her daughter Dianetta Castro, her sons Derrick Diaz, David Martinez Jr., and Daniel Martinez, her sister Niki Lopez, and her brother Daniel Trevino, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
