Kay was born in 1937 in Pittsburgh, PA and later moved to Rochester, NY, where she met her husband-to-be Kenneth Swetman at Charlotte High School. Ken and Kay were married in January 1956 and soon after moved to Atlanta, GA where Ken was employed by Delta Airlines. Delta moved the young couple to Tampa, FL and eventually to Arizona where they put down permanent roots. While Kay held a few different jobs over the years, she spent most of her time serving the rural farmers in her community as she managed the office of the local cotton gin and then later the office of a crop dusting company. In her retirement years she and Ken raised greyhound racing dogs. However, Kay’s true passion in life was the care of her husband and family. Kay was a devoted wife and mother who took care of her family and home with boundless energy. She was always at her happiest when serving others.
Kay is survived by her husband Kenneth Swetman; sons Michael (Ellen) and Ted, and daughter Vicki Gender (Tom). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael, Megan, Leslie, Kyle, Jason and Lindsey, and four great-grandchildren.
A public viewing will be held at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd. Goodyear, AZ 85338 on February 27th from 2-3pm, followed by a memorial service from 3-4pm, and a small reception afterwards.
