Richard “Dick” James McDonagh, age 80 of Goodyear, AZ died surrounded by his family on January 20, 2019. He was born June 10, 1938 in Toledo, OH, the only child of James and Elma McDonagh. Dick was raised in Toledo and graduated from Macomber High School. He worked as a welder for 50 years in the Local 50 plumbers and pipefitter’s union. Precise and hardworking, he could build anything and fix anything.
Dick was dedicated to his family. He worked hard to provide for any necessity his wife and children might have. He taught his children the importance of integrity and an honest day’s living. His example showed them what a husband should be. His patience and calm demeanor allowed him to go with the flow in a busy household of children and various pets.
He loved being outdoors. He enjoyed golfing, camping, boating, riding horses, shooting, even chopping wood. He liked sharing his outdoor adventures with his family. He especially loved to travel with his wife, Betty. Together, they traveled to many states in the US. After spending many trips out west, they fell in love with the west and chose Arizona as their retirement spot in 1998. In addition to US travel, they took several trips overseas to Ireland, Scotland and Israel.
Dick is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty McDonagh (Hudanski); daughters, Tamara (James) de Jesus, Deborah (Jack) Kroninger, and Lori Stickley; son, Scott McDonagh; eight grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elma McDonagh (Hum) and father, James McDonagh.
A visitation will be held at 12:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 26, 2019 at The Church of Litchfield Park, 300 N Old Litchfield Rd, Litchfield Park, AZ 85340.
