Arthur Gomez, 78, of Goodyear AZ, died on March 17, 2017 in St Petersburg FL. He was born August 05, 1938 in Flagstaff AZ to Emeterio and Regina Gomez. He was a veteran and served both in the United States Army and the Arizona National Guard. His career spanned over 30 plus years in the transportation field primarily as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 104 working for Milum laundry in Flagstaff AZ, Cactus Beverages in both Flagstaff and Phoenix; and ending his career with United Beverages. Throughout his adult life Arthur was active in his Catholic faith serving in many roles as member of various parish councils, member of legion of Mary, Member of Cursillo Movement, involved with Marriage Encounter and was a Eucharistic Minister for the diocese of Phoenix. Through his retirement in 2001, Arthur remained very active enjoying life, family and friends. Arthur was very involved as a Committee Member for the Chavez Reunion for many years. In 2005 our lives were changed with his debilitating stroke. Like a true warrior Arthur continued on for the next 12 years never complaining about his condition or the obstacles he dealt with daily. He continued his unwavering spirit of praying daily and growing in his Catholic faith.
Arthur is survived by his wife of 57 years, Charlotte Gomez; sons Anthony (Colleen), Alex (Genevieve); and Tom; sisters Rosie Griego and Olivia Pacheco; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Emeterio and Regina Gomez; brother Jimmy, sisters Marcella Gutierrez and Mary Padilla.
A visitation / Rosary will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Sunday April 2nd, 2017 at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear, AZ. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, April 3rd, 2017 at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 13720 W. Thomas Rd, Avondale, AZ 85392. Interment will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery, 9925 W. Thomas Rd, Avondale, AZ 85392.
