Darrel “Butch” Lavern Schuppan was born on May 24, 1947, to George and Jennie (Teal) Schuppan in Winner, South Dakota. He served as a Specialist Fourth Class Rifleman with the First Battalion, 26th Infantry. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his time in the Vietnam War.
Butch and his wife Mardella “Marty” have been together for over 40 years, and for 30 of those years, their home was in Buckeye, Arizona. They were married on October 31, 2002, at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. If they weren’t working they were loving life with their family and friends. They spent many weekends in the mountains and deserts around them. When he wasn’t working or in the mountains riding his horses, mules, or side by side, he was tinkering and doing home improvements. One of his favorite horse trips was the Death Valley ride with his friends and family, which he did multiple times.
Most of Butch and Marty’s love was the four-legged kind. He loved his horses, Willie and Buck, his mules, Cash and Donk, and his dogs, Kate, Spike, Spur, KC, and Zeke. On Friday, September 2nd, 2022 Butch left this world after his battle with cancer. He passed, well-loved by his family and friends. He is survived by his kids, Darci (Rick) Robinson of Anderson, MO, Traci Bayus of Papillion, NE, and Travis (Sarah) Schuppan of Glenwood, IA; his grandkids Kevin (Courtney) Bayus, Desiree Schuppan, Nikki Schuppan, Kari (Jackson) Carr, Kate Schuppan, and Troy Schuppan; great-grandchildren, Elaina Ramos, and Maya Webb; his sisters, Bobbie Carter, Dixie Archer, and Sharleen Smith; He was preceded in death by his parents George and Jennie Schuppan, his wife Mardella “Marty” Eckstaine, and his sister Georgene Cutsor.
