As a child, Ernie, also known as Chino, was in the Stockton Drum and Begel Core. His family moved to Avondale in 1964 from California where he attended Agua Fria High School. He lettered in Cross Country and played the drums for the Agua Fria Band.
Ernie worked at Unidynamics for many years. He enjoyed coaching his summer league baseball team, The Pirates. He loved fishing, hunting and playing golf. He was also a Die Hard Raider fan, win or lose. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. We know he is in a better place and will be watching over us until we meet again. Rest in peace.
Ernie is survived by his wife Rita Adame Contreras; daughters Raquel Sage and Andreali Arriaga; sons Arturo Cavazos and Ernesto Contreras III; sisters Lupe Mascarenas and Marina Salazar; brothers Eugene, Joaquin and Christopher Contreras; 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Rose Contreras.
