A visitation will be held Thursday, April 7 at 2pm, with Military Honors beginning at 3pm at Thompson Funeral Chapel.
Charles Jacob “Jake” Galvan, 45, was born in Fort Worth, TX on March 1, 1977, and tragically passed away in Goodyear, AZ on the morning of Monday, March 28, 2022
Jake lived in Goodyear, AZ with his wife and their four children. Growing up in Texas, Jake was involved in baseball and football and after high school joined the United States Marine Corps where he served his country with honor for 8 years as an aircraft mechanic, safety and recovery specialist, sniper, and several other capacities until his honorable discharge in 2004. Jake used his military experience, charisma, and familiarity with rank-and-file hierarchies to work his way up in the Arizona Department of Corrections, from an entry-level Correctional Officer to a Deputy Warden at the time of his retirement in 2021 from Lewis Prison Complex in Buckeye, AZ.
Jake had a knack with children and his gentle and guiding spirit was felt by all. No one ever entered Jake’s home as a guest that didn’t leave feeling loved, welcomed, and well-fed…likely stuffed from his infamous and delicious cheesecake. Jake loved being a father, both in words and action, and was present and engaging with his children as he would lovingly sprinkle life lessons and mini how-to sessions into conversations with them as they went about their days. Jake shared special bonds over golf with his older sons while still enjoying a good bedazzling craft session with his only daughter. Jake and Courtney were married in Sedona, AZ on December 16, 2017, and have always held that place as their special spot - taking several weekend getaways there after their wedding day. Jake was into reading Sci-Fi novels, working out, swimming, hiking, taking walks with his family and enthusiastically playing with his children. Jake was a video game tactician and truly enjoyed playing games like Destiny, Empires & Puzzles, and Call of Duty. Jake’s love of the movies, especially Marvel movies, was something he truly found captivating and was able to share in that excitement with all of his children.
Jake is survived by his wife, Courtney Galvan (33) of Goodyear, AZ, and 5 children (3 stepchildren and 2 biological children): Jackson Fleming (13) Goodyear, AZ, Jarren Reed (11) Goodyear, AZ, Emmerson Reed (9) Goodyear, AZ, Jonah Galvan (3) Goodyear, AZ, as well as Jacob Galvan (13) of Phoenix, AZ. Jake is also survived by his three younger sisters: Jacqueline Escobedo (TX), Julia Selman (WY), Jennifer Mayfield (WY). Jake is leaving behind his Stepfather, John Ranelle (WY) and several nieces and nephews: Jackson Escobedo, Madeline Escobedo, Isabela Escobedo, Elijah Stafford, Morgan Stafford, Maxwell Mayfield, and Lincoln Mayfield.
Funeral services will be held at Thompson Funeral Chapel – 926 S. Litchfield Rd., Goodyear, AZ 85338 on Thursday, April 7, 2022 from 2:00pm-4:00pm.
