Detta Bedford, age 70, passed away at Sante of Surprise on February 8, 2022. She was born in Santa Monica, CA on January 30th, 1952 and enjoyed her childhood in North Hills, CA. She met Gary Bedford in her early 20’s and they traveled their way through the beaches and most of the National Parks in the western US. They were married in 1980, and she gave birth to two daughters before the family moved to Florida. In 1995, they settled down in Pennsylvania for nearly 20 years where she was an active member of her community, and beloved as a teacher’s aide for special needs children at Northwestern High School. At 60, she developed Parkinson’s Disease, so she and Gary moved to Arizona for world-renowned care. She fought it passionately with Rock Steady Boxing and in the choir of the Tremble Clefs. When she wasn’t exercising, you could often find her at a baseball game, deep in a book, or engaged in an exciting game with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Bedford; daughters Heather Feeney and Laura Edwards; sister, Mary Kay Fischer; and brother, Joe Berardino. She is also survived by two grandchildren: Reagan Gerlach and Greyson Feeney. She was preceded in death by her parents Fortunado Berardino and Maxine Berardino.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday February 22 at 1:30pm at Thompson Funeral Chapel.
The family suggests that donations be made to Rock Steady Boxing Phoenix (Fighting Parkinson's) (www.rocksteadyboxingphoenix.com)
