Sandra Lee Smith-Washington, 69, died on Sunday, January 22, 2017. She was born on May 31, 1947 to Frank and Geneva Smith. She grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated from Omaha Technical High School in 1965. In 1966, Sandra married James E. Martin, Sr. and the two of them welcomed their son, James Martin, Jr. on March 3, 1971. In 1978, Sandra remarried Geo. Washington who preceded her in death.
Sandra was a dedicated employee. She worked as a secretary with National Indemnity Company and also worked with a national commercial cleaning service. Later, she earned her license as a Certified Nursing Assistant where she enjoyed many years of helping those in need.
She was a dedicated mother who consistently worked multiple jobs to fund her son’s private education at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Omaha. Her son credits his successes to her examples of resilience and sacrifice.
Sandra was baptized as one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Omaha, Nebraska on April 18, 1999. Sandra enjoyed Bible Study and fellowship at the Kingdom Hall. She particularly enjoyed field service ministry and sharing her faith with the community. Over the years, she continued to grow and develop her relationship with Jehovah God.
In 2001, Sandra moved to Antioch, California to live with sister, Donna. During this time, she immensely enjoyed spending time with her sister, brother in law, nieces and nephews. She built upon her faith as one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses by diligently attending the Kingdom Hall and participating in field service. Sandra remained in California until she moved to Madison, TN in 2008.
While in Tennessee she developed many wonderful relationships with the brothers and sisters of her Kingdom Hall. She also enjoyed the company of many of her friends at Chippington Tower II.
Sandra’s loyalty and faithfulness to her Creator, right down to the end of her life, epitomized the true Christian faith, setting an example worthy of imitation. Sandra will be missed greatly by her family and fellow believers, all of whom eagerly look forward to seeing her again after she is resurrected in Paradise.
