Born in Hurricane Mills (Humphreys County), TN to the late Thomas and Lena (Estes) Capps, Rufus is also preceded in death by his sisters Ora Lee Capps, Sara Lou Penuel; and his brothers, Roy Capps and Bobby Capps.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Rose (Killebrew) Capps; sons Steven Capps (Barbara), Roger Capps, Kevin Capps (Kara); grandchildren John Capps (Ashley), Mary Lynne Capps, Laura Capps, Lindy Capps; great-grandchildren Daniel Capps and Matthew Capps; and his brother Herbert "Buddy" Capps. Rufus is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other beloved extended family and dear friends.
Rufus graduated from Waverly High School (Class of 1953), and also graduated from Falls Business College, where he met Mary Rose.
Rufus proudly served his country in the United States Army before his career working for the United States Postal Service in the finance department. Devoted to his family and his faith, Rufus enjoyed spending time with all of his grandkids and was a member of Jackson Park Church of Christ for the past 22 years. He previously served as church Deacon for 25 years at Madison Church of Christ. Rufus rarely missed a little league game, Karate session or Scout meeting when his children or grandkids were involved. Our memories shared with Rufus will be cherished and he will always remain close to our heart.
A visitation will be held Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 3pm -5pm and again on Monday, January 29 from 10am - 12pm, with a funeral chapel service to begin at 12pm and burial to follow, all at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 1150 South Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, TN.
