Bob, as most knew him, was a fun loving, dad, grandpa and great grandpa. In his early years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping, bowling and softball. He continued to enjoy bowling, & camping throughout his later years, and added tinkering and crafts to his hobbies. He enjoyed doing leather working and flagpole making and any little project he could find to keep him busy. Bob also loved the cruises he and Dorothy took with friends and family, to Alaska & Hawaii. He was a faithful Iowa Hawkeye fan and always cheered on his Chicago Cubs.
Bob and Dorothy were married on 4/17/1955. They would have celebrated 67 years this April.
Bob was a Butcher by trade his entire adult life. He began his career in 1957 at the Royal Blue Grocery Store in Tipton, IA. He continued to cut meat in various supermarkets in the Quad City IA area through the years. He retired from full time work, in 1998 while working at the Hy Vee Foods Supermarket in Bettendorf IA. However, he continued working part time at this store until October 2015.
Robert is preceded in death by his Father Elza Dawson; Mother Maxine Sissel Dawson; and Sister Donna Meyers.
Robert is survived by his wife, Dorothy Miller Dawson. His four children, Mark (Michelle) Dawson, Elijay GA; Sheryl (Kevin) Brown, Wilmington NC; Dave (Kathy) Dawson, Portland TN; Steve (Regina) Dawson, Onalaska WI; & loved like a daughter-Lynne Martel, East Moline IL. His sister-in-law Maxine (Bill) Coiner, Atalissa IA. 11 Grandchildren; 7 Step Grandchildren; 16 Great Grandchildren; 16 Step Great Grandchildren; 1 Step Great-Great Grandchild; 8 Nieces & Nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are requested for medical and funeral expenses. Please contact a family member.
A visitation for Robert will be held Friday, February 18, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 1150 South Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, TN 37072, followed by a celebration of life service at 12:00 PM.
