Norma “Jean” Smiley, age 82, of Goodlettsville, TN went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 18, 2022. Her family is rejoicing that she is no longer confused with dementia and thankful to the Lord for His mercy and guidance as she gracefully walked through this challenging time in her life. Jean imitated the love of Christ as she cared for her family with a servant’s heart and a sacrificial spirit.
Jean was born November 9, 1940 to Norman and Martha Caruthers. She grew up in Hendersonville and Nashville, TN and was a graduate of East High School. Jean married Kenneth Smiley in 1963, and the Lord blessed them with 59 years together. Jean was a devoted and loving mother to her daughters Shelley Bassham (Joey) and Kendra Coleman (Rickey). Her grandchildren; Joseph Bassham, Jackson Coleman, Addie Coleman, and Lanie Coleman; loved their Mama Jean and will miss her dearly.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Martha Caruthers, and her sisters, Ann Nichols and Linda Morris. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Kenneth Smiley, her daughters Shelley Bassham (Joey) and Kendra Coleman (Rickey), her sister, Roberta Garrett (William), her brother Wayne Caruthers (Marie), as well as her beloved grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation for Norma will be held Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM with Joey Bassham officiating. Burial will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
