Juanita S. Edwards

Our beloved Juanita (93) passed away November 13, 2020 in Nashville, TN. Mama Greene, as she was affectionately known, is survived by three daughters, Joan Buchanan, Patricia Cowan, and Kathy Davis, seven grandsons, Michael Buchanan, Troy Cowan, Bubba Cowan, Tony Buchanan, Wayne Cates, Chad Cowan and Gentry Cates, three granddaughters, Mia Greene, Kandi Fisher, Kandi Fisher, twenty- one great grandchildren and fifteen great great grandchildren.

Mama Greene, one of four children, was born in Giles County on September 13, 1927 to Jesse and Tessie Smith. She married Richard Greene in 1941, and the couple had three daughters, Joan, Pat and Kathy. Mama Greene attended Broadmore Church of God for most of her adult life and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, TN in her later years.

Mama Greene loved the Lord, her family, and always a cup of “HOT, HOT, HOT Coffee” wherever she went. Part of her daily routine was to pray for each of her family member by name from a list she kept at her bedside. An avid reader of her Bible, her favorite verse was one she could repeat by heart, “For God so loved the world, He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life - John 3:16.” She had a nickname for each of her children and grandchildren and they say that just being in her presence made them feel special and you could see the love of Jesus in her eyes. Visiting Mama Greene meant you could always count on a hug, white beans or pinto beans, cornbread with a slice of onion. She never let anyone leave the house without letting them know she was praying for them and making sure they were going to church on Sunday. She left behind her legacy, Jesus, family, and hard work. Her family leaves the final thought, “We will miss that sweet voice saying your name followed by “it’s your granny.” Rest in peace Mama Greene, you will be missed.”
