Jimmie Mae (Whitlock) Powers

Jimmie Mae “Whitlock” Powers age 85, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away at home Sunday, April 30, 2023. She was born Sunday, June 6, 1937 and raised in DeKalb County, Smithville, Tennessee. She was the daughter of James Henry and Martha Elrissa Tramel Whitlock. Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Boyd Eugene Whitlock.

She is survived by husband of 63 years, Roy Clint Powers; son, Roy Neil (Carla) Powers; daughter, Lisa Gayle (Todd) Kemmerly; 6 grandchildren, Jeremy Neil (Heidi) Powers, Destiny Nicole Powers Hooper, Jessi (Chelsea) Stewart, Amanda Stewart, Benjamin Kemmerly and Harrison Kemmerly; 9 great-grandchildren, Carter Powers, Gracie Powers, Christopher Hooper, Aspen Hooper, Hadlee Powers, Emerie Jo Hester, Gunner Hester, Maverick Stewart, Hayden James.

Jimmie was a retired Metro Davidson County Teacher; she first started teaching at Brick Church Elementary in 1959 and ended up at Old Center Elementary. She taught pre-school and young children in Sunday School for over 50 years at Dickerson Road Baptist Church, known to all her students as Miss Jimmie.

Visitation will be Friday, May 5, 2023 from 4:00 to 8:00 and a Celebration of Live 10:00 Saturday May 6, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Dr. Lloyd Johnson presiding. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 in Franklin Memorial Gardens, 188 Halfmoon Rd. Winchester, Tennessee with Bro. Ray Gardener officiating.
