A man of quiet passions and deep care, Jerry found joy in life’s simple pleasures—chief among them, his love of the outdoors, his animals, and his unwavering loyalty to Vanderbilt.
Jerry had a lifelong fascination with the weather. He was known for always being up-to-date on the latest forecasts and making sure his loved ones were prepared, rain or shine. His happy place was his yard, where he spent countless hours tending to his plants and watching the wildlife that often visited—a quiet ritual that brought him peace and purpose.
An avid animal lover, Jerry shared his life with many beloved pets over the years, and each one held a special place in his heart. His compassion extended beyond his own home, as shown just days before his passing, when he stopped to guide a snapping turtle safely across a neighborhood street. It was a small act, but one that spoke volumes about who he was.
He is preceded in death by his father, Glenn Travis Herron; and his mother, Mary Lou Beasley Herron.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Medley-Herron; brother, Michael G. Herron; and his many furry companions: dogs Penny and Jenny; cats Black Kitty, Annie, Bojangles, Crockett, Scooby, and Whitney; and a frequent feline visitor named Mish. Each of them knew his gentle nature and the warmth of his affection.
Jerry’s memory will live on in every peaceful breeze, every backyard bloom, and every creature lucky enough to have crossed his path.
He will be dearly missed.
