James R. "Mr. O" Oldham, age 85, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2019. Mr. Oldham was born Wednesday, February 13, 1935 in Nashville, Tennessee and is preceded in death by his parents, Ted S. and Ruby A. Wortham Oldham and brother, Terry W. Oldham.
Mr. "O" served in the Marine Corps for 27 years and was a captain at the time he was discharged; he received a BA from the University of Hawaii and taught history, math, and science for 30 years at Goodlettsville Elementary; worked as a walking mail carrier 10 years for the Postal Service; was also Assistant Prison Farm Director for the state of Tennessee; a member of Goodlettsville Masonic Lodge and in his spare time he enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mariko Okura Oldham; his son, James Roland Oldham, Jr. and his wife Theresa; his daughter, Kathy Martin and husband Bill; brother, Wilbur Thomas Oldham and wife, Kim; sisters, Susan Hemenway and husband, Glenn; Nancy J. Vance; seven grandchildren: Jessica Bly, Paige Oldham, Danielle Oldham, Gracie Martin, Carrie Chiles, Brian Trafelet and wife, Candace, Jessica Trafelet; eight great-grandchildren: Eli Bly, Jaxon Bly, McKenzie Ligon, Carly Glenn, Jaiden Glenn, Ethan Chiles, Hayden Chiles, and Josie Trafelet.
A celebration of life will be conducted 2:00 Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends will gather to remember Mr. "O" at a visitation Monday, December 30, 2019 from 2:00 until 7:00 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home 1150 S. Dickerson Rd Goodlettsville, Tennessee.
