Born in Nashville to the late G.T. and Maire (Arrington) Hamsley, Edyth is also preceded in death by her husbands Carson Daniel Castleman and Gary B. Childress. She is survived by her children Traci Tidwell (Dewayne), Niki Celis (Manuel), Eric Childress; sister Joyce Harkreader (Wayne); grandchildren Ryan Tidwell (Frances), Dani Tidwell, Briauna Celis, Clarita Celis, Quinton Celis; nieces Tani Sherman (Patrick), Cindy Ethridge (Anthony); nephew John R. Webb, III (Dena) and many other beloved extended family and dear friends.
Edyth retired from working as a bank teller and enjoyed travelling, especially to the mountains. She had a love for nature and people. A member of Faith Baptist Church (formerly Alta Loma) since childhood, Edyth was devoted to her faith. Her love of family drove her ambition to deliver “meals on wheels” with her husband Gary. She was in the Red-Hatters club, taught pre-school choir and was a member of many community and church committees. Some will remember her as being a little directionally challenged when it came to driving, but Edyth always made it to her destination. She never missed card game days with her friends and never missed an opportunity to spend time with her family. Her smile and laugh will be dearly missed, but she will forever remain close to our heart and never more than a memory away.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 10am – 12pm with a funeral chapel service to begin at 12pm and burial to follow, all at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 1150 S. Dickerson Pike, Goodlettsville, TN.
