Duane Howden Jr.

Nashville, TN - Alton Duane Howden, Jr., “Dewey” died on February 7, 2021. He was 79 years old, born in Petoskey, Michigan on February 5, 1942. He was the eldest son of Alton Duane Howden, Sr. and Elma Myers Howden (Proctor). He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jan Howden Schools, and his grandson, Jack Denton Holt, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Eleanor Ann Young Howden; daughter, Angela Marie Howden; son, Richard Duane Howden (Mary), daughter, Keri Ann Howden; his grandchildren, Diana Marie Holt, Richard Duane Howden, Jr., and Michael Reed Howden; and his great-grandchildren, McKenna Adams, Peyton Hesson, Jeremy Holt, and Matthew Kizer. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Howden Speight; brother, Gary Lee Howden (Donna); sister, Jayne Almonrode (Gary); brother, Robert “Bobby” Proctor; and many loving friends, including honorary pallbearers, Con Raymer, Michael Taylor, Bob Sullivan, Mike Borum, Max Matthews, and Jan Coveyou.

Dewey worked at the Ford Glass plant for thirty years and made many life-long friends who knew him as Howdy. He also devoted his time to coaching little league baseball and was well-known and loved at ballparks all around town. He and Ann loved to dance and were charter members of the Nashville Bop Club. After he retired from Ford, he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was well-loved and well-respected by his community and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
