Dixie Lee Jackson Waggoner

Dixie was born Wednesday, January 17, 1945, on a dairy farm in Nashville, TN, being the third daughter of Roy and Willie Lee Jackson passed away Friday, January 20, 2023. Her farming background instilled in her a deep appreciation of nature, agriculture, and respect for the "independent" American farmer and those diligently assisting in food production.

Graduating from Goodlettsville High School in 1963, she later received her Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education from Middle Tennessee State University in 1967, being recognized as an Honor Student. Shortly, thereafter, she accompanied her husband, Chester Michael Waggoner, while serving his military assignment in Frankfurt, West Germany. Thus began her enjoyment of being a military wife, their many travels and various military customs including social gatherings and other offerings. Based on her gentle, Southern mannerisms and likeable disposition, she affectionately became known as "Miss Dixie" in her husband's military circles and by others appreciating her friendly and sincere spirit of kindness.

Her love of children led her into working in and volunteering with children's programs in the Metro Nashville Public School System, private kindergarten programs, Sunday school, hospital children's programs, and other youth activities. She greatly enjoyed raising her only son, Chester Michael Waggoner, Jr., and in time sharing her love with her grandchildren Thaddaios and Tatiana Waggoner, as well as her many nieces and nephews. As a dedicated member of West End United Methodist Church in Nashville, she participated in various social and service activities, always sharing the "Loving Light of Christ" with all people.

Dixie was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Col. Chester Michael "Mike" Waggoner, her father Roy Sumner Jackson, her mother Willie Lee Carney Jackson, her sister Katherine Marie Jackson-Wallace, and her nephew, Lowell Mason Wallace III.

She is survived by her son Chester Michael Waggoner, Jr. (Kari), her grandson Thaddaios Michael Waggoner, granddaughter Tatiana Marie Waggoner, and sister Arla Ruth Jackson.

Visitation Monday, January 23, 2023 from 3:00 until 6:00 and Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from11:00 until 12:00 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Goodlettsville, TN.

A celebration of life will be held 12:00 Tuesday t Forest Lawn with the Rev. Erin Racine officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Serving as Pallbearers are, Thaddaios Waggoner, Jamie Nance, Ken Nance, Jon Nance, Weldon Akins, Ryan McGehee. Honorary pallbearer: Anita Akins.
