Bessie Jane Smith

Bessie retired after 28 years from the Sumner County School Board as the Cafeteria Manager of Millersville Elementary School. She loved cooking and spending time with family especially her grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Slaters Chapel United Methodist Church.

Preceded in death by her husband, Olan L. Smith Sr.; mother, Effie Mills; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Smith, and her brothers.

She is survived by her children, Olan L. Smith Jr. (Sherry), Richard Smith Sr., Dolly Sullivan (Jerry), Jeff Smith (Ashley) and Jennifer Wright; grandchildren, Michelle Tucker, Mark Smith (Stacy), Richard Smith Jr. (Jackie), Alvin Smith (Lisa), Brandi Webster (Shannon), April Prater (John), William Smith and Christopher Wright; 9 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and sister, Effie Hassell.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2pm, Thursday June 22, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Tinnin officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service from 11am until 2pm at the funeral home.
