A resident of Prairieville, she passed away at her home on Friday, May 29, 2015. She was 69 and a native of Crenshaw, MS. She loved being around family and spending time with them. Shirley was the glue the held her family together, with her generous soul and cheerful spirit, she set a standard of the kind of unconditional love required to make it through all the good and bad times. Her favorite part of the day was having her grandchildren crawl in bed with her in the afternoon to watch Reba or the Food Network. She was an optimist; always doing whatever she could in hard times while truly believing things would work out in the end. It should comfort us all to realize that she is reunited, free from pain, with her parents, Theo and Ellen Parker Collums as well as her siblings. She is survived by her husband, Marion Mayeaux; daughters, Carol Harpole, Ellen Kelley (Adrian "Scoot"), and Karen Beckwith (Gary); sons, Samuel Boyd Harpole (Cynthia Ann), Kenneth Mayeaux (Maureen); brother, Aubrey Collums; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. Shirley was preceded by her first husband, Harvey Harpole; sister, Hazeltine Parker; and a brother, Carl Collums. Visitation will be at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Sunday, May 31, 2015 from 3 pm to 9 pm. Visiting will resume on Monday at St. mark Catholic Church, Gonzales from 9 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Burial to follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and friends.
