Shelton Henry Babin

Shelton “Butsy” Babin, Jr., born and raised in Dutchtown, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2017 at his home, with his family at his bedside. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lena Diez Babin, mother Helen Babin, six children; Teresa and husband Marty Bourgeois, Trudy and husband Tom DePierri, Dr. Kevin and wife Paige, Keith and wife Lucy, Shelley and husband Aaron Bourgeois, and Shane Babin. He had 14 grandchildren, Jared Bourgeois, Nicole Arceneaux, Jade Bourgeois; Tiffani Theriot, Jeremy Avrill, Matthew Avrill, Elizabeth, Claire, Caroline and Reid Babin, Chantel Elliot, Zachary Babin, Bailey and Brodie Bourgeois, and 5 great grandsons. He is survived by his siblings, Byron “Tut” and wife Julie, Patricia and husband Kenny Granier, Joanie and husband Mike Basso, Ricky and wife Phyllis and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Shelton Babin Sr.; brother, Michael Babin; nephew, Rhett Babin; niece, Shannon Granier; father-in-law, Chester Diez, Sr. and mother-in-law, Mildred Diez. Shelton worked at BASF for over 35 years as a shift supervisor. He was a charter member of the St. John K.C. Council, 8342 and an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He loved to fish and camp with his family. He could always be found at any event supporting his grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Clarity Hospice for their caring services.

Visitation will be Friday, March 3, 5pm - 9pm with recitation of the rosary at 7pm at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales and Saturday, 9am - 11am at St. John the Evangelist Church in Prairieville. Funeral service begins at the church at 11am followed by burial in Cornerview Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, and brothers Ricky and Byron Babin. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Services of BR/Charlie’s Place, 3772 Suite B North Blvd, BR, LA 70806.
