A native of Galvez and resident of Prairieville, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at age 59. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, Sunday, June 20, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation resumes Monday, June 21, at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Entombment in Greenoaks Memorial Park Cemetery, Baton Rouge. Survived by his wife of 32 years, Anna Shirley Nickens; son, Ronnie Nickens; grandchildren, Ashton Lee Nickens, Kaci Rae Parrish and Allie Beth Picou; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy and Corrine Nickens, Dicky and Barbara Nickens, and Clif Nickens; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Nickens, Pat Nickens, Elaine and Tony Ruiz, Marvis Nickens, Marjory Nickens, Maggie Nickens, and Loretta Nickens; half brothers and sisters, Leslie, Carol, Agnes, and Joan Nickens; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his daughter, Rae Anna Nickens; father, Lee Nickens; and mother, Mary McCrory. Pallbearers will be Joe, Joseph, and Christopher Brignac, his nephew, Micah Nickens, and friends, Dwayne Carpenter and Dwayne Acosta. Honorary pallbearers are brothers, Clif, Tommy, and Dicky Nickens, an uncle Sonny McCrory, and an friend, Robert Fayard. He was employed by Cembell Industries Inc. and retired from Turner Industries. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and served the community as a past member of the Auxiliary Police Department, Gonzales Fire Department, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Reserve, and a past member of the Jambalaya Festival Association as well as having coached the Gonzales Boxing Club.
