Richard John Rodriguez, a resident of Galvez, was welcomed into the arms of his heavenly father on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the age of 67. Richard served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from Shell Pipeline after many years in Operations and Maintenance. Richard enjoyed the outdoors, doing yard work, raising livestock, hunting, fishing, supporting his children in sports activities, camping, and traveling. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sondra Dixon Rodriguez; children, Casey Rodriguez Bourgeois and husband, Justin of Baton Rouge, Isaac “Zack” Rodriguez and wife, Laura of Lake Charles, and Sarah Rodriguez of Galvez; grandchildren, Brendon and Breanna Bourgeois, and Jackson Rodriguez; sisters, Catherine Bradley and husband Dewitt of Prairieville, Joyce Core of Greenwell Springs; brother, Paul F. Rodriguez Jr. and wife, Christine of Port Hudson; in-laws, Lyonell and Jeanette Dixon of Galvez, and many nieces and nephews. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Paul Frank Sr. and Aline Rodriguez; Foster parents, John and Lula Popielaski; sisters, Josie Bercegeay and Mamie Cude; brother, C.A. Hammett. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Ourso Funeral Home of Gonzales from 6pm until 9pm. Visitation will resume on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Ourso Funeral Home of Gonzales from 9am until a service celebrating Richard’s life at 11am. Interment will follow at Ficklin Cemetery (Joe Sevario Rd., Prairieville). Brendon Bourgeois, Richard Bercegeay, Tom Hood, Gary Ayo, George Rodriguez, Travis Rodriguez, Shane Russell, Derrick Rushing, and Chase Mosher will serve as pallbearers. Jackson Rodriguez will serve as honorary pallbearer.
