Phyllis Joan Jones

Phyllis Joan Horine Jones, a native of Strawtown, Indiana and resident of Gonzales, LA was born on May 7, 1932 and died on September 23, 2022 at the age of 90. Phyllis grew up in Strawtown, Indiana and graduated from Walnut Grove High School. She remained close with many of her classmates, including her best friend Pat Kinzer, whom she had been friends with since the 6th grade. After high school, she moved to San Francisco where she met Harold J. Jones, who was serving in the NAVY and also a native of Indiana. They moved back to Indiana and were married on June 12, 1953 and later had one daughter, Lou Ann. Throughout her life she was active in the New Comers club and Welcome Neighbors. In 1971, the family moved to New Orleans, LA. She worked as a bookkeeper/office manager for many years. In 2007 Phyllis and Harold moved to the Greens at Pelican Point in Gonzales, where she made many friends. She had several hobbies including, playing bridge and painting and crafting. She loved watching the Indianapolis 500 every year, attending Mardi Gras parades and going to the casino with her husband. Phyllis had always loved dogs throughout her life, especially her poodles and great granddogs. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, Sandi and Laura. In 2019, Phyllis moved to Francois Bend, where she made many friends and enjoyed listening to music and playing bingo. Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. Jones; her father, Samuel Horine; mother, Nadene Horine and brother, John W. Horine. She is survived by her daughter, Lou Ann; son in-law, Richard; and granddaughters, Sandi and Laura. A special thanks to her friends at Francois Bend for always being there for her.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Ourso funeral Home in Gonzales, LA. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow.
