Paul DeLaune, resident of Prairieville, passed away on February 1, 2022, at the age of 65. He was surrounded by his loving wife, kids, and grandkids. Paul was born on February 7, 1956, to Mabel and Vennie DeLaune in Baton Rouge, LA. He is a 1974 Graduate from East Ascension High School. He married his high school sweetheart and raised his family in St. Amant, LA. He followed his dad’s footsteps and was a skilled machinist. Everyone went to him with anything that needed to be built or fixed. He loved working on racing engines on his off time. Paul was known for his passion for boat racing, and this was his absolute favorite thing to do, besides fishing at his camp down South. Paul was everyone’s rock, the most selfless person! He often spoke about how his family meant more to him than anything else in the world. He never met a stranger, and he loved very hard. Once you met him, that was it, you were his lifelong friend.
He was so proud of his two grandsons. He lived to support them and made sure he was a huge part of their lives. He managed to turn one into a fine fisherman, and the other into a passionate racer just like him. Paw Paw lived every day for his grandkids. Visiting will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant, La., on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Religious service will take place at 1 p.m. Interment in the church cemetery to follow. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Kay Lambert DeLaune; son, Lucas DeLaune; daughter, Dustie DeLaune Sheets (Shawn Sheets); grandchildren, Colsen Sheets, Olivia Sheets, and Hagan DeLaune; sister, Linda White. Preceded in death by his parents, Vennie Hagan and Mabel Richoux DeLaune; and his brother that he missed dearly, Mark “Peppi” DeLaune. The pallbearers for the service will be Lucas DeLaune, Shawn Sheets, Casey DeLaune, Victor Molea, Troy Carter, and AJ Penalber. The family would like to suggest in lieu of flowers to please send a memorial donation to the American Heart Association.
