Mary Lydia Olivier, a native of Leonville and resident of Gonzales, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the age of 82. Lydia had a kind and loving spirit and loved to help anyone she could. She enjoyed socializing and spending time with family and friends. She had a green thumb and loved to be outdoors working in her garden. Lydia is survived by her sisters, Priscilla Popp of Estherwood, LA, Lela Ashlock of Columbia, MS, and Nettie Hanks of Rayne; brothers, Eugne Lanclos of Opelousas and John Olivier of Estherwood; grandchildren, Michael Sky Courville and Joey Courville; beloved niece and godchild, Janine Brown and husband, William and Carolyn Rheams and husband, Michael; nephews, Ronald Braud and wife, Denise, Darryl “Bozo” Braud and wife Carolyn, Kermit Braud, Jr. and wife, Claire; her precious pet poodle, Jolie. Lydia is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Lillian Lavergne Olivier; sisters, Yola Braud and Bonnie Mott. A memorial service to celebrate Lydia’s life will be held on at a later date. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dale Rheams and Michelle Kelly for their selfless devotion to Lydia.
