A native of Brusly McCall and resident of Prairieville, he passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2013. He was 76 years old and retired from Local #406 Operators Engineers. He also retired from the music industry. He played music from a young age, playing with The Night Owls, Cy Holly, and The Rockets. In 1958 he went on to form his own band with Mike Steen and Dale Houston. They became “Buck Rogers and the Jets.” He wrote and recorded “Crazy Baby” and several other songs. He was inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Fame in 1997. At age 50 he gave up the night life and went on to play music for the Lord in Church.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Sonya R. and Mark Turner, Lorinda “Missy” and Mark Finley, and Damaris “BeBe” and Robert Burns Jr; “adopted” daughter, Michelle Steen Perck; seven grandchildren, Ashley Norris, Garrett and Chase Rodriguez, Mazie Burns, and Roger, Reyna, and Brianna “BeBe” Finley; and five great grandchildren, Garrett Jr., Sadie and Shelvie Rodriguez, and Leila and Eden Newberry; Brother Dawson Rodriguez; four sisters Joyce Sanchez, Audry Percle, Majorie Acosta and Marian Newman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his wife, Shelvie Netterville Rodriguez; parents, Narcisse S. and Eva Plaisance Rodriguez; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be Garrett Rodriguez Sr., Chase Rodriguez, Rodney Netterville, Doug Netterville, Jeff Netterville and Flint Percle. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clarence “Curly” Bourgeois, Donald Carter, Edward Carter, Jimmy Easterling, Roland Griffin and Keith Vetter.
A visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Monday, October 7, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation will resume at Corinth Church of Christ in the Buffalo Community, MS on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 9 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m., conducted by Pastor Steve Pochop and Brother Bernard Waites. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Woodville, MS.
