Joseph William "J.W." Fontenot passed away on June 28, 1951 while in the hands of the opposing forces in Korea at the age of 20. At the time of his death, he was a native and a resident of Whitehall, Louisiana and was serving our country. Joseph was assigned to the Army's Company L, 3rd Battalion, 38th Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Louis, Washington receiving the rank of Corporal. Before entering service, Joseph's occupation was a strawberry farmer along with his father on the family farm in Whitehall, Louisiana. Visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Hwy., Gonzales, Louisiana on Friday, October 26, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. We will resume on Saturday, October 27, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. until religious services at 10:00 a.m. conducted by Rev. Michael Ziegler and Chaplain Douglas Yoder. Burial will follow at Whitehall Community Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Army which he loved. Corporal Joseph William "J.W." Fontenot is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Barbara Fontenot Noel and Melonie Fontenot Picou and Ronald Picou all of Gonzales, Louisiana. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Corporal Fontenot's parents and three sisters and six brothers all passed away without knowing that their son and brother will finally come home to his place of rest. It has been 61 years of not knowing where he was and if his body would ever be located. Corporal Fontenot's parents were Lucien Ameluse and Annie Josephine Delatte Fontenot. His deceased siblings are sisters, Eronie Marie Rousseau, Rosalie Reine, and Eloise Caro; and brothers, Francis "Put", Joseph "Half Pint", Thomas "Tom Cat", Carter, Jimmy and Hubert Fontenot.
