James Willis (Jimmy) Brown, Sr., a resident of Dutchtown, LA, born May 17, 1932 in Lambert, MS passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales, LA at the age of 85. He was retired from Teamsters Local No. 5 where he was a Business Agent for 25 years and later worked 10 years as an operator with Engineers Local #406. Jimmy was a graduate of Gonzales High School where he excelled in football and earned a scholarship to Copiah-Lincoln Junior College in MS and later went on to serve his country. Jimmy was a Korean War Veteran serving from 1952 - 1956 as Gunner’s Mate on the U. S. S. Wedderburn DD684. Jimmy married the love of his life and was a true family man and a hard worker. He had a passion for the outdoors, loved raising cattle and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by 3 daughters Viann Brown Bentley, Kittye Brown Delaune (Benny), Mickey Brown Templet (David); son James (Jim) W. Brown, Jr. (Kathy); sisters Wilma Brown Thomas, Delois Hodges and Judy Credeur; brothers Rollie J. Brown, Jr., Buster Brown, Billy Brown and Percy Brown; 7 grandchildren Chrisy Cavalier, Megan Delaune, Aaron Delaune, Jamie Templet Rodriguez, David Templet Jr., Lacie Brown Persac and James Brown, III; 7 great-grandchildren Calie and Brennan Shaules, Matthew Templet, Chloee, Mason and Alexia Rodriguez and Brayden Persac. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Jane Smith Brown, grandson Brady Kyle Delaune; son-in-law T. J. Bentley, parents Rollie Jackson Brown, Sr. and Wilma Willis Brown, sister Rebecca Brown and brother John Brown.
Visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm. Visitation will continue at Ourso on Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 9:00am until service at 11:00am, conducted by Deacon Randy Clement. A graveside service will follow at Oak Lane Cemetery in Prairieville. Pallbearers will be Jim Brown, Jr., Aaron Delaune, James Brown, III, David Templet, Jr., Mike Brown, David Templet, Sr., Benny Delaune, and Todd Kling. Honorary pallbearers will be Rollie J. Brown, Jr., Billy Brown and Buster Brown.
