not the pastor/preacher, who has given us freedom of religion and worship.

It's the Soldier and the Marine,
not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It's the Soldier and the Marine,
not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble and demonstrate. 

It's the Soldier and the Marine,
not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. 

It's the Soldier and the Marine,
not the politician, who has given us the right to vote, ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
It's the Soldier and the Marine, Who salutes the Flag, who serves beneath the Flag and whose coffin is draped by the Flag, who gives the protester the right to burn the flag.

ETERNAL REST GRANT HIM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HIM.

I just found out that Gary passed away.  Almost every November 10th, I would send him a Happy Birthday Marine message, since we met at Weapons Company, 3/23rd Marines. We'd catch up a little with a few messages about the latest in our lives. I'm sorry I did in better touch.  Even though he named his old car VICIOUS during the eighties, there aren't many genuinely kind and sincere men in the world like the Gary I knew.

Gary was the best of the best.  We've been best friends for many years.  I can't put into words the sadness and loss I feel.  Gary touched so many lives and made a lasting mark on so many hearts including my own.  As I think back to all the great times we shared I am grateful to have those memories.  I know he would want me to remember them.  He was an amazing father, full of love for his boy Evan.  He challenged me to be a better man.  I was blessed to have had him in  my life and will miss him greatly.

My heart is breaking for the loss of my friend! Gary was always so upbeat & smiling whenever I saw him. My heart is also aching because last week I just knew I would be there to tell him goodbye. But I had to evacuate my home & car. But my heart & thoughts are there with you guys. Tell Gary goodbye for me, Rebecca! Love you

Gary was such a wonderful, giving, and big hearted person.  He gave so much of his time to help our credit union, he was a very active Board Member.  He was a great father and a great friend and he will be missed by so many of us.  RIP my friend.... You will forever live in our hearts!!
