A native of Alexandria and resident of Geismar, he passed away Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the age of 48. Major Francis Joseph Toomey was a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp, Senior Army Instructor at Northeast High School, East Baton Rouge Parish School System, for the past six years. Major Francis Joseph Toomey, II served in the Louisiana Army National Guard for 24 years. He served in the enlisted ranks from 1981 to 1987. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in August 1987. He deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm from August 16, 1991 to March 26, 1992. Major Toomey received the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal and numerous other citations. Major Francis Joseph Toomey retired August 31, 2005 from the Louisiana Army National Guard. He is survived by his wife Linda J. Sisneros; son, Zachary Toomey; stepdaughter, Valerie Bergara; father and stepmother, Francis J. Toomey and Lena; sister, Terri Richard; and a brother, Derek Toomey. Preceded in death by mother, Marcia Nettles Toomey. There will be visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, Sunday, November 20, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Prairieville, Monday, November 21, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev.
