Elizabeth “Betty” Caldwell Hutchinson, a native of Bridge City, Texas and a longtime resident of Gonzales, Louisiana, passed away on June 13, 2023 at the age of 87. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Betty was always very strong in her faith. Betty and her husband were charter members of St. James Lutheran Church in Gonzales, where she also was the music director for many years. She was a very talented musician, playing the piano and organ from a young age throughout her life. Betty was a member of the Gonzales Art Gild and was one of the original members of the Gonzales Women’s Club.
Betty has now rejoined her late husband, Gene “Barney” Hutchinson in their eternal heavenly home. She is preceded in death by her sister in law Elaine Caldwell and her parents, Joe and Lilie Caldwell. She is survived by her daughter, Jean E. Hutchinson, her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Suzi Hutchinson; three grandchildren, Miles Hutchinson (Tika), Morgan Hutchinson (Fiance, Clint Coats) and Devon Hutchinson; four great-grandchildren, Kenzi & Collyns Hutchinson and Carson & Cohen Coats. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Jean Caldwell, Nephew Steven Caldwell, Nieces Cathy Bishop and Becky Weber and family members.
The family would like to send a special thank you to her caretaker Debra Larks, the nurses and aids from Lightsource Hospice, the staff at Golden Age Rehabilitation and the 2nd floor nurses at Our Lady of the Lake – Gonzales in the Telemetry Unit.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Betty on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church, 1415 E. Hwy 30, Gonzales, LA, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The interment will follow at Serenity Oaks Cemetery in Prairieville, La. Those serving as pallbearers will be Miles Hutchinson, Clint Coats, Randall Haddad, Matt Mckey, Brent Templet and Rod Olson. The honorary pallbearers are Don Rascoe, George Dalton, Bruce Schexnayder, Kevin Davis and Robert Starkey.
