A native of Paulina and a resident of French Settlement passed away at his residence on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the age of 99. Mr. Millet was born to Leonard and Aurora Babin Millet on October 4, 1916 in Paulina, La.. He moved to French Settlement as a young boy, where he grew up with his brother George. After high school he worked with his father Leonard for a short period doing carpenter work. He later put himself through college at LSU where he earned a Masters degree in Entomology and meeting his wife Rita Colgrove; who was from Indiana. From there he went on to a full and a lifelong career in the foreign service, working with the Dept. of Agriculture and USAID, mainly in Asian countries helping with destructive insect control and agriculture issues. After his retirement, some years were spent in Long Beach, MS. before moving back to French Settlement to the original home he grew up in, built in the 1800's. With the help of his wife Rita, they personally renovated the old homestead and lived there until their deaths. He ran and was elected Mayor of French Settlement, which he held for three terms. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, The Council on Aging and was a long time lectern in the local church.
He is survived by his daughter, Michelle M. Dobey, 2 sons: Ed Millet, Jr. and Jon V. Millet, 5 granddaughters: Tiffany, Debbie, Alisa, Mary and Mattie.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Leonard and Aurora Babin Millet, wife: Rita Colgrove Millet and brother: George Millet.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will resume on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in French Settlement from 9:00 am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am conducted by Rev. Jason Palermo, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
