Derrick Wayne Moreau (age 55) of Livingston, LA, passed away on February 25, 2022, after struggling with complications from diabetes and heart disease for many years. His long and hard-fought journey has finally come to an end, and he is resting in peace with those he loved who have preceded him in death. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30).
Derrick (affectionately known as “Big D”) was known as a big-hearted, gentle soul who loved LSU football and Cajun cooking. Most of all, he loved his friends and family. Derrick was born in Marksville, LA, and spent his formative years in Baton Rouge and later in Prairieville, LA. His love of football began as a young boy, and he played in youth leagues, and later become a stand-out player on the high school field, ultimately winning numerous awards in his senior year. He likewise excelled in his academics, being one of those students who never “cracked a book,” but managed to graduate at the top of his St. Amant High School 1984 class. Following high school, Derrick had a 4-year stint in the Navy, where he was a submarine nuclear mechanic. Ultimately, he returned back to Louisiana and spent his working years as an IT Specialist for the state of Louisiana. Derrick was known as a jokester who loved to laugh. When you became his friend, you were his friend for life, no matter the time that lapsed between speaking. He was loved by all who knew him, and while his absence will be felt, there is comfort in knowing that we will all be reunited again. “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life” (John 5:24).
Derrick was preceded in death by his father, Edison Joseph Moreau, Jr.; his mother and father-in-law, Richard Carl Johnson & Verna Mae Driesbaugh; his grandparents, Fagie Chatelain & Ello Rose Roy Chatelain; and Edison Joseph Moreau, Sr. & Thelma Ducote Moreau.
