David Scott Kittrell, Sr., 73, died on February 5, 2023, at his home in Prairieville, Louisiana, surrounded by his family. He was born July 16, 1949 in Mobile, Alabama, the son of Walter Scott Kittrell, Jr. and Eunice Vivian Neese Kittrell. David graduated from East Ascension High School in 1967. Following graduation, he attended Louisiana State University for one year and then joined the United States Navy Reserve on September 4, 1970. He served on the U.S.S. New Orleans and did two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Radioman First Class. He was part of the crew that retrieved the Apollo 14 astronaut crew. David was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. On August 18, 1979, he married Patti Pourciau. They celebrated 43 years together before he died. David was previously married to Nadine Ross Kittrell and they had two children. David worked in the engineering field as a senior piping designer for 36 years beginning in 1973. David had a strong entrepreneurial spirit and started Gulf South Battery Doctors in 2009 where he worked until his retirement in 2017. He spent his years after retirement spending time with his family. David loved to fish and spent many hours catching redfish in Leeville with his friends and family. He had various hobbies over the years including wood burning, macramé, raising quail and chickens, and emulsion plate photography. He also enjoyed having all his kids and grandkids around the house. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his nephews, Kerry Keas, Ryan Burychka, and Lance Keas. Surviving in addition to his wife, Patti (Pourciau), are his children, Kristin Kittrell Tassin, and her husband, Shannon; David Scott Kittrell, Jr., and his wife, Christy; Dawn Kittrell Louviere, and her husband, Shelton; and Michelle Kittrell Poucher and her husband, Jayson; grandchildren, Abigail Tassin, Cody Louviere, Sarah Tassin, Emily Louviere, Elizabeth Louviere, Hannah Tassin, Braydon Poucher, Kyle Poucher, Kylie Kittrell and Tyler Kittrell; sisters, Erett Burychka, and her husband, Jimmy; Joyce Langlois and her husband, Julian; Sharon Deville and her husband, Keith; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Highway, Gonzales, Louisiana on Thursday, February 9, 2023, 5:00-8:00 p.m., and will resume Friday, February 10, 2023, 10:00 a.m.-Noon. A celebration of life and service of remembrance will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Noon at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Highway, Gonzales, Louisiana, with a short graveside service and burial following at Rest Haven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
