Darrell Johnson, a native of Bunkie, LA, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2022 at the age of 74 after a battle with lung disease. Darrell was born on May 23, 1948 to Hope Coates Johnson, then raised from a young age by his father and mother, Lidie and Lola Johnson. He graduated from Glen Oaks High School. He served his country in the United States Army in ASA (Army Security Agency) during Vietnam. While home on leave, he met Elaine Campbell. They married on December 20, 1970. After being discharged from the Army, he was store manager of Howard Brothers until they closed. He then went on to Royal Nissan where he worked until his retirement in 2017. He was married to Elaine Campbell for 51 years at the time of his death. He enjoyed LSU sports, fishing and camping with family and friends. He loved watching and coaching his two sons in baseball. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents Lidie and Lola Johnson; brother, Johnny Johnson; son, Darrell Scott Johnson. Darrell is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Kristi (Brent) Gueho; son, David (Jami); daughter-in-law, Dawn Johnson; siblings, Janet (Allen Hetherwick), Randy (Carolyn) Johnson, Brett (Alecia) Johnson and Toni (Bart) Ackermann; grandchildren, Dari (Connor), Cody (Harlie), DJ, Remi, Rayce, Robbie; great-grandchild, Loxleigh. Special thanks to the many doctors and nurses who have taken such good care of him for the past few years, especially OLOL rehabilitation department. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation which will be held at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, LA on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from 4:30 – 7:00 pm. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm officiated by Dr. David Goza. Burial will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church Cemetery, Monterey, LA. Pallbearers include David Johnson, Cody Martinez, DJ Johnson, Brent Gueho, Bart Ackermann, Skip Shows, Brett Johnson, Randy Johnson. Honorary pallbearers include the Royal Nissan Breakfast Club, co-workers and friends at Royal Nissan.
