Bonnie Margaret Carville Reames, 70, born March 1, 1947 and a native of Carville, Louisiana, passed away surrounded by her large, loving family in Baton Rouge, LA. Bonnie was a devout Catholic, with a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and Blessed Francis Xaxier Seelos. She was especially known for the many lives she touched as a superb educator and mentor – education was her vocation, and she had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, in particular history. She taught for 25 years at St. Theresa of Avila School. Her favorite pastime was any and all activities with family and friends and especially with her grandchildren. She remained optimistic and courageous in the face of her illness – both diagnoses - and fought the good fight with the same profound devotion to the Lord she had her whole life. In the end, her family never left her for a moment – so numerous they spilled out into the hallway just to be there for her. Defined by her faith, simplicity, humor, goodwill and loyalty, she fiercely loved her six children and thirteen grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Nippy and Chester Carville, and her brother William Kenneth “Bill” Carville as well as her in-laws, Wilks and Ruth Reames. She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Michael Wilks Reames and her six children: Will Reames (Carla), Matt Reames (Danielle), Brian Reames (Carolina), Patrick Reames (Jennifer), Jamie Reames Hardie (Charles), and Courtney Reames Haydell (Garner), as well as her thirteen beloved grandchildren: Grace, Grant, Adrian, Isabella, Grayson, Elijah, Olivia, Jude, Benjamin, Adeline, William, Maxwell and Zachary. She is also survived by six brothers and sisters and a sister-in-law: James Carville (Mary), Mary Anne Olivier (David), Gail Bourgeois (Ricky), Pat Hoffman (Sparky), Steve Carville (Anne) and Angela Crochet (Gary), Holly Coates-Carville and their children and grandchildren.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday November 28th, 2017 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church from 6pm to 9pm, to continue at St. Gabriel Catholic Church on Wednesday morning (November 29th) 9am to 10:45am with a funeral Mass to follow, celebrated by Father John Carville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105).
Bonnie’s family and friends will be forever grateful for the many ways she enriched their lives with light and laughter. We will miss her immensely.
