Bernice “Alene” Martin Barron, aged 93, resided in Walker, LA, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at The Crossing (Clarity Hospice) in Baton Rouge, LA. She was a devoted wife of 64 years, a loving mother of three, and a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother. Alene was known for her servant's heart, being a founding member of Southside Baptist Church, where she ministered to countless individuals each month as a church and event hostess.
Some highlights of her life include:
• Diverse Talents: Alene was skilled in various crafts, ranging from painting, cake decorating to floral arrangement.
• Sewing Expertise: A talented seamstress, she created everything from curtains, wedding gowns to sewing countless hundreds of outfits for underprivileged children in Nicaragua.
• Professional Background: Alene worked as a tailor at Haspel Suit manufacture, originator of the men’s seersucker suit. She and her husband, Harold also owned a restaurant in Tylertown, MS.
• Culinary Skills: Known for her culinary talents, she served as a church hostess, meticulously planning and preparing numerous events. Additionally, each and every month, as a ministry, she dedicated over 40 years to organizing and cooking meals for near 100 residents of the Livingston Manor.
• Gardening Enthusiast: Because she grew up on an 80-acre working farm, Alene enjoyed gardening and the art of preserving and canning produce.
• Loving Character: Alene loved people, had a great sense of humor, loved the Lord, going to church, Gospel music, and serving people. Her caring and giving nature touched the lives of many.
Visitation will be held at Southside Baptist Church in Denham Springs, LA, on Friday, April 19, beginning at 9:00 am, followed by a service at 11:00 am. Graveside service and Interment is at Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery. She is survived by her children: Vanessa Barnett (Steven), Brian Barron (Sherry), son-in-law Mike Bigner, three grandchildren: Tamara Bigner, Derek Barnett (Shelby), Trent Barnett (Brittany), and three great-grandchildren: Maggie, Caroline, and Brooke Barnett. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, siblings and parents: Harold Eugene Barron (husband), Arborea Alene Barron Bigner (daughter), Norma Lee Martin Fortenberry (sister), Marshall Martin (brother), William Kelly (WK) Martin, Jr. (brother), William Kelly Martin Sr. (father), Bernice Arborea Beard Martin (mother).
