Norman was born on March 31, 1929 in Delavan, Minnesota, married Christine Alta Arbeene in February 1950 in Washington, D.C., served in the Navy during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge, became a father to Sandra in May 1955 in Arlington, VA, served as a civilian employee with the Department of the Air Force in the Pentagon for 36-years, retired as a GS-14 in March 1984 and moved with Christine to Albuquerque, NM, buried his beloved Christine in Albuquerque in 1990, and relocated to Golden, Colorado to live near his daughter in 1994.
Norman supported the Republican National Committee and U.S. Olympic Committee and his charity support included the American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, American Veterans Network, Fire Fighter Support Foundation, Police Associations, VFW, and many other worthy causes. He helped build floats for 2 Golden Buffalo Bill Days, built a soap box derby car for his grandson to race in a Buffalo Bill Days derby in downtown Golden, and helped renovate an 1875 Golden historic home, and collected Kachina dolls. Sandra followed his footsteps and works at the Pentagon doing the same type of work supporting American soldiers serving around the world.
Norm was preceded in death by his wife of 40-years and is survived by his daughter Sandy Smith and her husband Darrell; his brother Merlin Cross and his wife Pat of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; grandson Stephen Strong and his wife Christina and their son Kevin Cross Strong of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; and Adam Smith and his wife Cindy and their son Nehemiah and daughter Hadasa Smith of Tampa Florida.
