She was an accomplished violinist at an early age performing in the Hollywood Baby Orchestra and in the Pasadena Orchestra as a soloist including high profile Rose Parade events. She received her bachelor’s degree from Whittier College and became a beloved School Teacher teaching Kindergarten and First Grade in Pasadena and at Cullen Elementary School in Glendora for many years. She found great joy in having High School students come back to her class to say hello and thank her. Ruth served as an energetic member of many community organizations including the PTA, TOPS and the Charter Oaks Women’s Club.
Ruth’s greatest joy was the love of her life David Ryan whom she met after WWII and became his wife of 72 years. Their first date was at the Rose Queen’s Coronation and Celebration Dinner in Pasadena set up by their grandfathers and the rest is history.
Ruth was a loving mother raising her two sons David and Ken in Glendora and most proud of her two boys and her daughters-in-law Lynn and Margie, her four grandchildren Justin, Julie, Tommy and Robert and her three great grandchildren Taylor, Devon and Cooper.
Ruth and Dave were very active in the Glendora United Methodist Church for over 60 years. In their retirement days, they enjoyed traveling with friends, playing cards, spending time at their desert cabin near Palm Springs, and “putzing” around in the garden. She also took pleasure in her fine collection of distinct and unique Owls.
Ruth will always be remembered as a shining star, true to her values and convictions, strong in her faith and devoted to her family.
A graveside service for Ruth will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Oakdale Memorial Park, 1401 S. Grand Ave., Glendora, CA 91740.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.OakdaleMortuaryGlendora.com for the Ryan family.
